Equity raises Equitel Loan limit amid growing transactions

Equitel Eazzy Loan – Equity Bank spiced up its mobile phone microloans product as it said its customers will now access higher credit amounts that are payable over a longer period through the Equitel platform.

The tier I lender said its new “Eazzy Plus Loan” product will enable customers to borrow up to Sh3 million payable within 12 months, up from a minimum of Sh100 to Sh200,000 which was payable within a 30 day period.

“We believe that in the next few years Equitel will do five more times the number of transactions than all other channels put together,” said Equity Group’s chief executive James Mwangi.

The move follows the NSE-listed bank’s announcement in March that Equitel’s 1.7 million customers had transacted over Sh115 billion last year compared to Sh4.7 billion in 2014.

The value of Equitel loans stood at Sh8.5 billion in 2015 while 78 per cent of all loans the bank disburses are now accessed through the mobile platform, the lender also said.

The chief executive said that the increased use of Equitel to access credit “will benefit users since the loan repayment rate through the mobile platform is better than other channels.”

“We can significantly reduce the cost of borrowing for our customers,” he added.

Equitel Money – Linking your Equitel SIM to your bank account

On registration, your Equitel SIM automatically will be linked to your bank account. However, if you have not linked your Equitel SIM at the Equity bank branch or agent, and you are already a member who is using Eazzy247, you can use your existing line to activate mobile banking on your Equitel line, with the following simple steps:

1. On your existing line, dial *247#. Enter your PIN and Select option 10 (more), then option 7 (Link Equitel). You will receive a notification with the message “Link Equitel to Mobile Banking was successful”.
2. You will also receive an “Activation Code” via SMS on your Equitel line. Open your Equitel SIM Tool Kit (STK) and select Equity. Enter your Activation Code, then enter a new PIN and confirm it. 1. If you receive a message on your phone that reads, “insert SiM”, it means your SIM is not inserted correctly.
2. Ensure that the phone is properly charged and switch it off.
3. Re-insert the SlM as per the instructions and try again

Equitel Kenya – Internet settings

Internet settings are configured automatically from the network once you activate your SIM.

1. You will receive a message with internet settings and instructions (please note, not all devices are supported).
2. In case this fails, you can send an SMS with text ‘ALL’ to shortcode 232 to receive the internet settings (only for supported devices).

4. You will be asked to provide proper identification during the call to facilitate processing of this request.
